Outfit of the Day: Hobo Chic

Happy Wednesday!
Thought I would liven up this week with a little outfit of the day. It's cold outside and there's still three feet of snow on the ground. That's not very ideal for wearing cute shoes or nice clothes when all I want to be is in comfy clothes. Here's my rendition of a little hobo chic look.

I am wearing a black long sleeve black tunic, black leggings and my flannel vest. For shoes I am wearing my knock off timberland looking boots with white knee high socks scrunched down. I tied everything together with my gold watch, bracelet, and hoop earrings to chic-en up the look. I also tied my hair up into a ponytail to show off the hoops.

Hope you enjoyed!

Snow Day

Happy Snow Day!
Thanks to Blizzard Juno in the North East, my school cancelled all classes for today and tomorrow! The City of Providence has even put a travel ban out so no one can be on the roads until they are safe enough to drive on. So what does that mean? Netflix and food all day. Here's a list of things to stock up on for bad weather and a list of idea to do if you run out of movies to watch.

What to stock up on:

  • Water - if you are not on city water
  • Non perishable snacks - especially if your power goes out), so things like: bread, peanut butter, goldfish, crackers, etc
  • Warm clothes and blankets - incase your heat gets turned off
  • First aid kit
  • Wine - if you're of age!! (or not)
Things to do if you get bored:
  • Play games. Whether it be Twister, card games, Yahtzee, Monopoly... I promise you'll have fun with your friends and the time will go by fast.
  • Explore. If it's not too dangerous outside, I recommend taking a walk or a drive around the town and see what damage Mother Nature has been done. My roommate and I took a walk through the snow earlier today and it was actually fun, despite my eyelashes freeing (tip: don't wear non-waterproof mascara out in a blizzard-- it will get all over your face)
  • Watch some more movies
  • Read a favorite book
  • DIY crafts

To all those who are warm and can drive, have fun! & To all those who are stuck inside like me, hopefully this post helped!
Till next time

Work out Fashion Favorites

Hi everyone!
I'm going jump right into this post starting off with: I have never stepped foot into a gym up until three days ago. That's right, in the 20 years I've been in this Universe, just three days ago was my first time in a gym. Better late than never, right? OK. I'm the type of person who doesn't like to sweat or look like I'm about to die in front of other people. But thinking about putting on my freshman fifteen last year, and then some extra pounds from the first half of this school year, I finally decided to get my little untoned booty to the gym. However, the day my friend asked me to go with her to the gym, the first thing I reply back is, "What do you wear to the gym LOL." I have a few staple work out clothes within my wardrobe that I wear for fun to make myself look like I care about my health. I've realized that I need more workout clothes unless I want to be known as the girl who wears the same outfit every time I go to the gym. So below are clothing items I own and then some links to some on my wish list.

Lulu Lemon Wunder Under black leggings- let me tell you guys that these are the most amazing leggings I have ever owned. I will never go back to Forever21 $5.00 leggings that rip within the first month of owning them. I swear these pants make you feel like you're wearing nothing. Yes they are pretty expensive, but SO worth it.
Nike sneakers- I am not a sneaker fan at all. I am very picky with how they look but I was so happy to find these. Plus they are so comfortable and I haven't gotten blisters from them yet *knock on wood*.
Calvin Klein Sports bra- I've mentioned these in a past post. They are super comfortable but if you have a little larger boobs they aren't too supportive. I have to wear a normal bra under mine when I wear them.
Black zip up- I love this thing. Again, another piece of clothing I wear when I'm not even planning on working out. It's so comfortable and not to heavy of a material that would make you sweat a ton more.

Wishlist:
From my most recent past several trips to the mall, I've noticed that Old Navy has been stepping up their game. Not only in normal apparel but in Active gear. These are some items that I think would be important in your workout wardrobe.

1967 - 2015 Generations Wearing Plaid Pants

Hi everyone!
I have mentioned in my intro post about my grandmother's sense of style and fabulosity. I was looking through some old pictures of her that my mom posted on Facebook recently and fell in love with her even more. She had such a chic sense of style, while I may add taking care of eight children--SIX boys and two girls. Anyway, while looking through the pictures, I came across this one. I mean come on, Grandma Carol. Looking fabulous while holding her youngest baby, my aunt Katie. Then I took a better look at the picture and something looked familiar. We had our annual family Christmas Party at my grandma's house this year and I wore an outfit basically the same as my grandma did almost 48 years ago. The only pictures I have from the party I'm barefoot and with no vest (30+ people in a small condo gets pretty hot)

So I thought to show you guys my full look I wore to the party. Excuse my hell of a mess of a dorm room (not my side). I wore just a plain black long sleeve top with a fur vest over it. The plaid pants are from Old Navy. Yes. Old. Navy. For shoes I wore a pair of nude/taupe shade pumps.

So here was me taking a look from almost 50 years ago and making it more modern and stylish. Hope you enjoyed it!

Four Different Ways to Style a Flannel

Hi! Natalie here. For my first ever fashion post I thought it would be a fun idea to incorporate my blog's theme into it, plaid. Below are four outfits I created involving flannels. Flannels are such a basic wardrobe item that anyone can find very easily for cheap. Three out of the four of these flannels I found at thrift stores for about $5.00 each. The other is my roommate's who she very kindly let me borrow for this post.

This first outfit is on the casual side. You could wear it to class, for a fun trip to the mall, or even just hanging out with friends.

This outfit is from:
Red & black flannel - Savers
Jeans - Forever 21
Sweater - Forever 21
White sneakers - Converse All Stars

This second outfit is little more dressed up with the fur vest and wedged booties, even incorporating the flannel. I would still wear this to class or even on a night out to dinner with your friends.

This outfit is from:
Flannel - Goodwill
Fur Vest -
Black Leggings
Boots - Marshalls

This third outfit is for those days you just want to be lounging around the house snuggled up on the couch all day watching your Friends marathon on Netflix.

This outfit is from:
Flannel - Local thrift shop
Bralette - Calvin Klein
Shorts - Tj Maxx
Socks - Forever 21

This fourth and final outfit is more on the dressy side again. I would again wear this out with friends for a fun dinner or the movies for a date.

This outfit is from:
Flannel - Tobi
Scarf - H&M
Black Tights
Booties - Marshalls

Thanks for reading

P.S. Funfact: Calvin Klein first started the #MyCalvins Campaign back in February, 2014. They wanted their consumers to post pictures of themselves wearing Calvin Klein merchandise with the hashtag #MyCalvins. If the Calvin Klein Instagram account holders like the pictures, they will feature them on the account with a shout out. I think this is an awesome idea for promoting themselves through their already customers. Even I have posted a picture on instagram with me in my bralette.

For the Love of Plaid

Hi Everyone!
For my first blog post, I’d thought I’d tell you guys a little about myself. For starters, my name is Natalie. I am 19 years old—will be 20 in January, from a small town in Connecticut. I am currently a sophomore studying Fashion Merchandising and Retail Marking at Johnson & Wales University in Providence Rhode Island. This blog was originally assigned by one of my professors, and I love the idea of it. I am in love with the city life and don’t know what to do with myself when I go back home to my small suburban town. Fashion, beauty & style have always been interests of mine ever since I was little. I get most of my inspiration from my ever so chic Mother and Grandmother. Their sense of style never ceases to amaze me. I enjoy the simple style. I like taking what I already have and figuring out new ways to style it with other clothing items I own. I mean come on, I am a college student with a budget, there’s no room for spending money right now. I also really enjoy finding gems at thrift stores and flea markets. Again, genetics from my Mother and her Mother. I think that’s all for now. The more I post the more you guys will learn about me. Oh, one last thing, my favorite print is plaid, which I’m sure you could have guessed from this blog title. I will also be following Calvin Klein's campaign #MyCalvins and even incorporating their products into my posts.

xo, Natalie
